Salesforce agrees to buy Loops, an AI analytics platform that explains why metrics change

Salesforce announced on 12 October 2026 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Loops, an AI analytics platform that watches business metrics and explains why they move. Loops will become part of Tableau, and the deal is expected to close in early November.

What Salesforce announced

Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Loops, a company that builds AI analytics. According to the announcement, Loops uses machine learning models to monitor business performance continuously, explain why a key metric changed and point to opportunities to improve it.

Loops works headless, which means it does not need its own screen. Teams can trigger it from Slack and from email, and it keeps watching their key performance indicators, flags trends and anomalies, and reports what is driving a change. After the deal closes, Salesforce plans to move the technology and the Loops team into Tableau.

Salesforce expects the transaction to close in early November, in its fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. The purchase price and any changes to Tableau or Slack pricing are not stated in the announcement.

What it means for B2B sales teams

Most sales dashboards show what happened: win rate fell, pipeline shrank, a region slowed down. The hard part is the why, and that usually costs a sales ops analyst a few days. Salesforce is betting that an agent can answer that question inside Slack, close to where managers already talk about the numbers.

Two limits are worth keeping in mind. An explanation is only as good as the data behind it, so a CRM with missing stages or late updates will produce confident but wrong answers. And this is a deal that has not closed yet: nothing changes for Tableau or Salesforce customers today. Teams in Europe should also check where any new analytics service processes CRM data once it becomes available.

What to do now

  • Write down the three questions your sales meetings keep asking about the numbers, so you can test any metric explanation tool against them.
  • Fix the CRM fields those questions depend on: stage dates, close reasons and deal source.
  • If you already use Tableau, ask Salesforce how and when Loops features will reach your edition before planning around them.
  • Keep the weekly pipeline review human led; our sales strategy work starts from the same metrics and stage definitions.
