Google Cloud launches the Gemini agent, one AI agent for work across Workspace and Salesforce
Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent at Gemini at Work 2026 on 8 October 2026. It is a single agent for work that takes an objective, plans the steps, connects to company systems such as Salesforce and Slack, and returns finished work inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Calendar.
What Google Cloud announced
In his keynote, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian described the Gemini agent as one agent that answers questions, does knowledge work, creates media and writes code from a single prompt box. "You give it objectives, not instructions," Kurian said. It can be reached on the web, on iOS and Android, on Windows and Mac, from the command line, and inside Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Slack.
The agent connects to the software a company already runs, including Salesforce, ServiceNow, Slack, Teams, Jira, BigQuery and Snowflake, and to any Model Context Protocol server. Teams can publish shared skills and tools in company registries. Inside Workspace it works in Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Chat and Calendar. Google's own example: ask it to set up a meeting with a usual group, and it finds the people, checks calendars and starts the email thread, external participants included.
Teams can also create coworker agents with their own Workspace account, email address, calendar and Drive. Every action is written to an audit trail attributed to the agent. The agent picks a model per task, from Google's Gemini models and Anthropic's Claude models today, and companies can set real-time spend caps per project. Google says nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 use Gemini Enterprise. Pricing and a general availability date are not stated in the announcement.
What it means for B2B sales teams
For sellers, the useful part is the link between the inbox, the calendar and the CRM. Scheduling, follow ups and account research that now take a rep's afternoon can be handed to one agent that sees all three. The limits are practical: the agent is only as good as the CRM data and the permissions it gets, and an agent that writes to prospects from its own address needs clear rules. For teams selling into Europe, check where the data is processed and how the audit trail fits your GDPR records before any agent emails a prospect.
What to do now
- Ask your Google account team for pricing, availability and the data processing terms for your region before planning a rollout.
- Start with internal tasks such as meeting scheduling and account briefs, and keep first contact with prospects in human hands.
- Clean the CRM fields an agent would read; our lead generation work starts from the same ideal customer profile and contact data.
- Set a spend cap per project from day one so usage stays visible by team.
